Q & A

How does therapy work?
Therapy is a special relationship you enter into with a trained professional psychotherapist. It is a unique relationship in that the sole purpose is to provide you the opportunity to reach your stated goals. Confidentiality creates a safe atmosphere where you are able to state your truth, discuss your fears, and work toward your dreams. Because your therapist is not involved in your personal life and therefore has no personal investment in the choices you make, your difficulties are viewed from a perspective that is often more objective and solution-based than that which friends and family can offer.

Isn’t it a sign of weakness to have to seek therapy?
This is a common misconception and nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, it takes courage to ask for help and to receive help. By doing so, you are proactively taking steps to improve the quality of your life. Psychotherapy is a process that signifies that you care enough about you to seek happiness and balance. That’s a very good thing!

What happens if I don’t get along with my therapist?
Occasionally, it is possible that you might find that the match between you and your therapist is not workable. This can occur for many reasons ranging from personality differences to differences in philosophy. While it is suggested that you discuss your concerns with your therapist, you may at any time choose another therapist. Your level of comfort is a very important therapeutic variable.

How long are appointments?
Insurance pays for a 45-minute session and therapists typically see clients based on that time period. However, private pay clients are given a 55-minute session

Are my sessions absolutely confidential?
If you are 18 years or older, all sessions are completely confidential except in cases where there is imminent physical danger to oneself, spouse, other adults, or children.+
